Moving to Instagram!

Hey guys! I know this blog has been dead for awhile, so I'm moving it to Instagram. I'll be using up the last of the bunny tags (there's a lot left over), and then I'll be making a new one with the Instagram link.

Bunny Season!

It's been a lazy couple of months so far this year, although I do have some new (now old) pictures of bunnies being dropped. Bunny season is upon us however, so I will be making and unleashing lots of bunnies in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, here's some of the drops that happened since my last post. :)

New Tags for a New Year!

Has it really been almost 2 months since my last post? Yikes...

Anyway, you might see an influx of posts in the near future with a bunch of bunnies being dropped. This is because I got some new tags! Hooray!

My aunt, uncle and cousin sent me a box from vistaprint for Christmas with 150-200 business cards, all containing the TBM message that I leave with my bunnies.

Aren't they neat? The card is nice and heavy, so it won't get all bent up if they get knocked around in my bag.

Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be phasing out the old tags and getting ready to drop the newly tagged bunnies. In the meantime I hope you all had an awesome holiday season. If I don't get to post some updates beforehand, I'll see you in the next year!

Florida Mall

We went out early to the mall today so we could get the Peter Pan Tsum Tsums that were being released. Even though we got there right around opening time, they were out of everybody except Peter Pan, Tinkerbell and Tick-Tock by the time we got to the register. Holy Cow, that store was packed! It took us the better part of an hour just to get through the line.

I did manage to drop a couple of tiny bunnies as we were leaving, though.

Back from Hiatus!

I am so sorry for the lack of posts in the last few months; there was some family stuff going on and I just kind of fell off track afterwards. I did leave a bunch of bunnies with family in Pennsylvania, so hopefully they all found homes!

In the meantime, I'll be at the mall tomorrow, so I'll try to leave some bunnies while I'm over there.

Bunnies Swarm the Hospital

I know it's been awhile since my last post, and I have a bunch of new photos to share! The last couple of times we've been in Marshall's/Home Goods I've left a few bunnies, and I managed to get a couple of pictures.

It also seems as if I've been found out at Pei Wei! We were having dinner there and I left a bunny with the tip, as usual. I came back from the car and the server was asking about it. :)

Then today, we were at the Celebration Hospital for an appointment and I was able to leave a total of 7 bunnies around the place! That's not all-I also got photos of every one I dropped!

I came back a few minutes after leaving these two and they were already gone!

Skye was dropped on a window sill as I was going upstairs.

 

This bun was left on the second floor.

 

When I came back to see that the first bunny left here was gone, I dropped another one on the other table.

 

Finally, we stopped for ice cream on the way home and I left the last bunny I had on me at one of the tables there! Today was definitely a successful swarm. :)

Chinese (-esque) Food and Groceries

Last night we went out to Pei Wei for dinner and had to stop at Publix on the way home. I managed to leave five bunnies in total for the night! Three at Pei Wei (I always try to leave one with the tip) and two at Publix.

Metrocon 2015: Bunnies! Bunnies Everywhere!

Something that I've been wanting to do for a few years now is to go to Metrocon, if only for a day (and let's face it, I probably couldn't handle an entire weekend) and see one of Parle's panels live. The only other con I've been to is Anime Boston back in 2013, and I wasn't really able to cosplay for that one. So, naturally, when my family moved down here to Florida one of my first thoughts was "Oh cool, Metrocon is in driving distance!"

This time, I was able to actually put together a full cosplay inspired by the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. I thought since I was going as a rabbit, it would be a great chance to leave a bunch of tiny bunnies at the convention.

I'm still learning the basics of sewing (I took better to knitting and crochet), so almost everything is store-bought. The jacket was from a Salvation Army store, and the scarf was on sale at Old Navy's. I made the ears by cutting them out of felt and using hot glue to attach them to the headband and shape them. I used blush on the inside of each ear to get the pink coloring.

As for the tiny bunnies, I've been trying to phase out my old tags made from the colored index cards. Any new bunnies are now tagged with a sheet from a notepad with the same message I've used. I made a bunch of bunnies specifically for Metrocon with the new tags, so that they would be all nice and, well, unbent.

The total number of bunnies I ended up stuffing in there was 38. I knew that bag would come in handy someday!

I wound up hiding only a fraction of that number, but I had a lot of fun with it regardless! There were a couple of times where I left a bunny, not-so-subtly walked away and came back to find it gone or someone inspecting it. Those are the times where I really love being a part of this group/movement, because even if it's only for a second or two, I love being able to brighten someone's day.

At some point while I was waiting for Parle's first panel of the day to start, I had gotten out some bunnies to hide/give away. I guess one or two had fallen out of my bag while I was fiddling around, and I didn't notice. A few minutes later, I noticed someone handing Kelly from Parle Productions a familiar looking purple bunny...and realized it was one that I had made. Only, I hadn't left a purple bunny anywhere at the convention.

I asked if the guy had found it somewhere else (I was a bit confused and seriously trying to remember when I had last left a purple one-I like to keep track, more or less, of how many I leave around) and it turns out he found it lying on the floor. So thanks dude, because otherwise it would have ended up in the trash more likely than not!

After I explained to Jack that I had been leaving bunnies like that one around the convention, he turned and yelled "I found the Bunny Lady!"

So yes, I had an awesome time. Hopefully, if I can get my act together next year, I can go and really swarm the place with tiny bunnies. Then I might finally make a dent in my stash. Hey, all the more excuse to make more, right? Seriously, these little guys are so much fun to make.

Bunnies take over Whole Foods!

So yesterday I left a bunch of tiny bunnies in the aisles at Whole Foods; I believe the total count was 5.

I also left a couple of bunnies at Books-a-Million and at Pei Wei. :)

Florida Mall and Easter Preparations

Easter is coming soon, and it's usually a good time to flood everywhere with bunnies. I haven't been able to place many for awhile, so I've got a lot of bunnies waiting to be unleashed. My last head count numbered in around 64/65, and I've made more since. Looks like I'll have to start getting serious about this if I want to make room.

I did manage to place one earlier this week at the Florida Mall! I had to literally drop it in one of their lounge areas, so it kind of face-planted onto it's tag. Oops.

I'll try and get more placed this week-so keep your eyes peeled!

UPDATE: We went out to eat last night and I managed to leave two with the restaurant and three more at Marshall's afterwards. This morning I hid one among the bargain books outside Books-a-Million. :)

I've also started using different tags with my bunnies-although it will be quite awhile before any of them are released. I still have a box full of older bunnies to go through.

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving! We spent the last couple of days with friends of the family over in Homosassa, and I managed to drop two bunnies over at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park on Wednesday. :)

I placed the first one in the Fish Bowl early on, and when we circled back it was gone, so I dropped the second one I had with me.


I also had brought a couple of bunnies to the breakfast area in the hotel Thanksgiving morning, and they found homes with a couple of girls before I could drop them!

Baa Ram Ewe

Meet Yukon! He's a golden-faced ram with a soft spot for water colors. An avid con-goer, Yukon has an impressive collection of passes that he's acquired over the years. He typically hangs out by the artists' booths, but he's never quite managed to set one up himself. When he's not planning for or attending a convention, he works full time at a craft store. Ironically enough, while he can point you to every kind of paint on the market, he's not very knowledgeable when it comes to the fiber crafts. He can tell you where to find the yarn section and...that's about it.

 

Yukon is a test run of that sheep pattern I found yesterday-with a few adjustments. I left off a couple of increase rounds in the body, added a couple of increase rounds to the face, and added another round of single crochet to the feet. I also crocheted six stitches into the ears, instead of four. His legs ended up being placed in a really wonky position, but it doesn't detract from the cute! His eyes also turned out much better than I thought they would. :)

 

Yukon's body is made from Loops and Threads Country Loom in "Warm Cream", and his face, feet and ears are made from Lion Brand Vanna's Choice in "Honey".

I've had a sheep on my list of amigurumi to make, and I think I might have just found the right pattern!

Three Bunnies Dropped!

So today while we were at the hospital, I managed to drop three tiny bunnies! And I actually managed to get a photo of one of them! Mind you, I wasn't exactly what you would call subtle while dropping and photographing it...

The quality of the photo isn't that great, but at least I got the shot.

 

The other two bunnies were dropped off on a large window sill and a waiting room table. All in all, I'd say it was a successful day in the tiny bunny area. :)

So a few days ago I suddenly wanted to make my next amigurumi a turtle or tortoise.

 

Look at this. How can you not want to recreate that face in plushie form?

 

 

After awhile I stumbled upon this pattern for a tortoise pattern, and immediately had to put in my queue. Instead of making a full sized tortoise, however, I decided to make a smaller version.

 

He's not mini, just travel sized.

 

 

This little guy was a fun project to make; I loved the idea of utilizing the fact that tortoises and turtles have actual bodies inside their shells, and attaching the limbs and head to said body. As in the original pattern, the two shells are crocheted together, and only the upper shell is crocheted on once I reached the legs/head/tail. This created a nice ridge along the shell's edge, which I left alone instead of crocheting more of an edging. I also put some extra stuffing between the body and shell.

 

...and then he promptly stuffed himself into a suitcase so he could go on an adventure.

 

 

As is usual for my projects these days, this guy is made entirely from Lion Brand Vanna's Choice yarn in "honey", "olive" and "beige". The eyes are 9 mm safety eyes, and I used a size "G" hook. It took me about two days to complete, but that was only because I started it late one day and had to resume in the morning.









Totoro Amigurumi Pattern

"To-to-ro? You're Totoro!"

After years of bumping it back on my queue, I actually sat down and made a Totoro amigurumi!

I'm sure the spirit of the forest needs no introduction, so I'll just say that this movie is very special to me since it was the first Miyazaki movie that I ever watched. One of my earliest memories is of watching our old, subtitled VHS copy and already being somewhat familiar with the story. And now I have my very own Totoro! As you can see, he's the perfect size to hang out in a teacup, or ride along on all your adventures.

I also wrote down the pattern as I went along this time, so if anyone else wants to make one, here's how I did it.

You will need:

Lion Brand Vanna's Choice in "Charcoal Grey" (Yarn A)
Lion Brand Vanna's Choice in "White" (Yarn B)
Size "G" crochet hook
9mm safety eyes
fiberfill stuffing
yarn needle
scissors

Stitches/techniques used:

single crochet (sc)
increase-make 2 sc in one stitch
decrease-crochet 2 stitches together, making 1 stitch. I prefer to use the invisible decrease.
magic ring/circle

Eyes (make 2)

Round 1: with Yarn B, 4 sc in magic ring (4)
Rd 2: *inc* around (8) Fasten off
Place safety eyes in middle of white circle; do not fasten backs.

Belly Patch

Round 1: with Yarn B, 6 sc in magic ring (6)
Rd 2: *inc* around (12)
Rd 3: *inc, sc in next st* around (18) Fasten off

Tail

Round 1: with Yarn A, 6 sc in magic ring (6)
Rd 2: sc around (6)
Rd 3: *inc, sc in next st* (9)
Rd 4: sc around (9) Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Head and Body

Round 1: with Yarn A, 5 sc in magic ring (5)
Rd 2: *inc* around (10)
Rds 3-5: sc around (10) Fasten off

Repeat rounds 1 through 5-DO NOT FASTEN OFF. Chain 5,and sc in one of the sts on the 1st ear. sc in next 2 sts, chain 5, sc in 2nd stitch from the first chain, sc in next stitch. place marker. (26)

Round 6: sc in 1st stitch, dec across next 2 sts, sc around to last 7 sts, dec across 2 sts, sc in last 5 sts. (24)
Rds 7-13: sc around (24)
-attach eyes and stuff head-
Rd 14: *inc, sc in next 3 sts* around (30)
Rds 15-19: sc around (30)
-start stuffing!-
Rd 20: *dec, sc in next 3 sts* around (24)
Rd 21: *dec, sc in next 2 sts* around (18)
Rd 22: *dec, sc in next st* around (12)
Rd 23: *dec* around (6) Fasten off.


Sew up hole in top of head with mattress seam. Attach belly patch to belly; cut length of Yarn A and embroider two upside down Vs to the top of the belly. Stuff and attach tail to back. Weave in ends.


And now you have your very own Totoro! Be sure to supply him with lots of acorns and his own umbrella. :)

Multiplying like-

So I did a head count of my tiny bunny stash this morning. Now, when I drop bunnies, I'm usually only able to leave 1 or 2 at a time-maybe 3 if nobody's looking. Combine that with the rate I usually make the bunnies, and they tend to add up fairly quickly.

Still, I think 37 bunnies-not including the ones I have ready to go in my purse-is enough to last me awhile, don't you?

Tiny Bunnies Movement

I was reading a forum on Ravelry.com one day about yarn-bombing, and I stumbled across a group called the "Tiny Bunnies Movement". From the moment I entered their page, I knew this was a perfect group for me-three of my loves, bunnies, yarn, and amigurumi, all rolled into one! So, now that I've placed a few buns myself and got some more waiting to make someone smile, I figured a blog would be a good summer project to get myself more active both as a writer and a crocheter. 

So, I guess I should say something about myself? I'm Bunii, and I'm an English major in MA; I was a bio major for about a year, and while I still maintain a passion for the biology field, I realized that my true calling is in writing. And leaving small bunnies everywhere, but we'll get to that. I have two (male) cats, Moose and Squirrel, and if you don't get the reference then you must not have had a childhood. :P

Anyway, that's enough about me for now.You're probably wondering what the Tiny Bunnies Movement is-basically, we crochet/knit teeny tiny stuffed bunnies, and leave them out in public for people to find and keep. Everyone has their own preferred pattern and method, not to mention the variety of tags that people attach, so no two bunnies are the same. Personally, I like the Bunnies Attack pattern; it's quick, easy and only takes a little bit of yarn to make. Right now my tags are simply cut up index cards with messages written on them, but I'm hoping that will change at some point.
